What is UP Pension Yojana (SSPY)?

The Uttar Pradesh government runs an Integrated Social Security Pension Scheme under the SSPY (Social Security Pension Yojana) umbrella. This provides monthly financial assistance to three vulnerable categories:

  1. Vridha Pension (Old Age Pension) — For senior citizens aged 60+
  2. Vidhwa Pension (Widow Pension) — For destitute women who have lost their husbands
  3. Divyang Pension (Disability Pension) — For persons with 40%+ disability

All pensions are managed through a single portal — sspy-up.gov.in — making it easy to apply and track status online.

Pension Amounts

Pension Type Monthly Amount Funding
Old Age Pension (60-79 years) ₹500/month State government

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. How much pension do senior citizens get in UP?

Senior citizens aged 60-79 get ₹500 per month. Those aged 80+ can get up to ₹1,000 per month (₹500 state + ₹500 central IGNOAPS).

Q2. Is pension paid monthly or quarterly?

The pension is paid quarterly (every 3 months). So for ₹500/month, you receive ₹1,500 every quarter directly in your bank account.

Q3. Can I apply for pension if I have agricultural land?

Yes, having agricultural land does not disqualify you, as long as your total annual income is within the prescribed limit (below ₹46,080 for rural areas).

Q4. My pension has stopped. What should I do?

Common reasons: bank account inactive, Aadhaar not linked, life certificate not submitted, or applicant turned 60 (widow/disability pensioners shift to old age pension). Check your status on SSPY portal and contact your BDO office.

Q5. Can a widow above 60 years get both widow pension and old age pension?

No, you can get only one pension at a time. Widows above 60 are automatically shifted to old age pension. The pension amount remains the same.

Q6. How do I submit the annual life certificate?

You can submit it through:

  • Online: Jeevan Pramaan portal using Aadhaar biometric
  • Bank visit: Submit at your bank branch with Aadhaar
  • CSC center: Visit a Common Service Centre for biometric submission

Q7. What if I don't have a disability certificate?

The disability certificate is mandatory for Divyang Pension. Get it issued from the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) office or a government hospital in your district. It requires a medical board examination.
