Aadhaar Authentication History: Check Who Used Your Aadhaar

Your Aadhaar number is used for identity verification across hundreds of services โ€” bank accounts, mobile SIMs, government schemes, and more. But do you know exactly how many times and by whom your Aadhaar was authenticated?

UIDAI allows you to check your complete Aadhaar authentication history online. This helps you detect unauthorized usage and take action before any damage is done.

What is Aadhaar Authentication History?

Every time an organization verifies your identity using your Aadhaar number, UIDAI logs it. This log is called your authentication history. It records:

  • Date and time of each authentication
  • Type of authentication (demographic, biometric, OTP)
  • Requesting entity (the organization that verified your Aadhaar)
  • Response status (success or failure)

You can view up to 6 months of authentication history through the myAadhaar portal.

Types of Aadhaar Authentication

Type What It Means Common Use
Demographic Name, address, DOB matched Government scheme enrollment
Biometric (Fingerprint) Fingerprint matched Bank account, SIM activation
Biometric (Iris) Iris scan matched Less common, used at specific centres
OTP One-time password sent to registered mobile Online eKYC, DigiLocker, tax filing
Multi-factor Combination of above High-security verifications

How to Read Your Authentication History

Here's what each column means:

  • Date/Time: When the authentication happened
  • Authentication Modality: Demo (demographic), FP (fingerprint), Iris, OTP
  • AUA (Authentication User Agency): The organization that requested verification. This could be a bank, telecom company, or government department
  • Response Code:
    • Y = Successful authentication
    • N = Failed authentication (wrong biometric, expired OTP, etc.)
  • Error Code (if N): Specific reason for failure

How to Detect Unauthorized Aadhaar Usage

Check your history for these red flags:

  1. Authentication you don't recognize โ€” If you see entries on dates when you didn't use Aadhaar anywhere, someone may have misused your details
  2. Unknown AUA names โ€” If the requesting entity is unfamiliar, investigate further
  3. Multiple biometric auths in a short period โ€” Could indicate cloning or misuse at a centre
  4. Authentication from locations you haven't visited โ€” Geographic mismatch is a strong indicator
  5. Failed attempts followed by success โ€” May suggest someone trying repeatedly

What to Do If You Find Unauthorized Usage

  1. Lock your biometrics immediately โ€” See our Aadhaar Biometric Lock guide
  2. File a complaint at uidai.gov.in โ†’ Contact & Support โ†’ Complaint
  3. Call the UIDAI helpline: 1947 (toll-free)
  4. File a cyber crime complaint at cybercrime.gov.in if financial fraud is suspected
  5. Lodge an FIR at your local police station for serious misuse

Important Tips

  1. Check your history every 2โ€“3 months โ€” Make it a habit, like checking your bank statement
  2. Keep biometrics locked when not in use โ€” This prevents unauthorized biometric authentication
  3. Use VID instead of Aadhaar number โ€” Virtual ID (VID) adds a layer of privacy for authentication
  4. Update your registered mobile number โ€” OTP-based auth depends on it; keep it current
  5. Download the mAadhaar app โ€” Convenient for quick checks and biometric lock management

Frequently Asked Questions

How far back can I check my Aadhaar authentication history?

You can view up to 6 months of history at a time through the myAadhaar portal. For older records, you may need to contact UIDAI directly.

Can I check authentication history without a registered mobile number?

No. You need OTP on your Aadhaar-registered mobile number to log into the myAadhaar portal. If your mobile is not updated, visit an Aadhaar enrollment centre to update it first.

What does AUA mean in authentication history?

AUA stands for Authentication User Agency โ€” the organization that requested your Aadhaar verification. Examples include banks, telecom companies, and government departments.

Is checking authentication history free?

Yes, completely free. You can check it as many times as you want through myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in.

Will I see Aadhaar e-KYC in the authentication history?

Yes. Any eKYC (electronic Know Your Customer) performed using your Aadhaar will appear in the authentication log with the requesting entity's name.

Can someone authenticate my Aadhaar without my knowledge?

If your biometrics are unlocked, it is technically possible for someone with access to your fingerprint (e.g., at an enrollment centre) to authenticate without your real-time consent. This is why locking biometrics is strongly recommended.
