What is Anna Bhagya Scheme Karnataka?

Anna Bhagya is Karnataka's free rice distribution scheme for Below Poverty Line (BPL) and Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) ration card holders. Under this scheme, eligible families receive 10 kg of rice per person per month completely free of cost, in addition to the 5 kg rice they already receive under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).

Combined with NFSA rice, BPL families in Karnataka receive up to 10 kg of rice per person per month from the Public Distribution System (PDS) either free or at highly subsidised rates.

Current status (as of 2026): The scheme has seen changes in implementation. From time to time, cash transfers have been used as an alternative when state procurement of additional rice was not possible. Check with your Fair Price Shop (Ration Shop) for the latest status in your area.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many kg of rice does each family member get?

Under Anna Bhagya combined with NFSA: Priority Household (BPL) card holders get up to 5 kg per person per month from NFSA plus additional Anna Bhagya rice (amounts may vary by current policy). AAY families get 35 kg per family. Check current rates at your FPS.

Can I transfer rice entitlement to another person in my family?

No โ€” rice must be collected by a member of the household. If the primary member is unavailable, another family member listed on the ration card can collect with their Aadhaar card.

What if my Aadhaar is not linked to my ration card?

Aadhaar linking is required for biometric verification at the FPS. Visit ahara.kar.nic.in or your Nadakacheri to link Aadhaar to your ration card. Until it's linked, you may be unable to collect rice at some shops.

I just moved to Karnataka. Can I get rice?

You must first get a Karnataka ration card. Surrender your previous state's ration card and apply for a new one at ahara.kar.nic.in or a Seva Sindhu center.

Is cash given instead of rice sometimes?

Yes โ€” at times the state has provided direct cash transfers (typically โ‚น170 per kg ร— entitlement) when rice stock from central government was insufficient. This may vary by district and time period.

Can I change my Fair Price Shop?

Yes โ€” you can apply to change your FPS at ahara.kar.nic.in or the Taluk Supply Office if you have moved or have issues with your current shop.
