What is Delhi Free Ration Scheme?
The Delhi Free Ration Scheme provides free foodgrains to eligible families in Delhi through the Public Distribution System (PDS). Under this scheme, combined with central schemes like PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) and National Food Security Act (NFSA), eligible Delhi residents receive free wheat, rice, and other essential commodities every month from designated ration shops (Fair Price Shops).
The scheme is managed by the Department of Food, Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Government of NCT of Delhi.
Who is Eligible?
- Delhi Resident: Must be a resident of Delhi with a valid Delhi ration card
- Ration Card Category:
- AAY (Antyodaya Anna Yojana): Poorest of the poor families — 35 kg foodgrains/month
- Priority Household (PHH): 5 kg per person per month
- NFSA Coverage: Families covered under the National Food Security Act
- Aadhaar: Aadhaar-linked ration card for biometric authentication at shops

How to Get a Delhi Ration Card
Online Application
- Visit nfs.delhi.gov.in or edistrict.delhigovt.nic.in
- Register / Login
- Select "New Ration Card" application
- Fill family details, address, and Aadhaar numbers of all members
- Upload documents
- Submit and note application ID
- Verification by Food Supply Officer at your residence
- Ration card issued after successful verification
Offline
- Visit the District Food & Supply Office or Circle Office
- Collect the ration card application form
- Fill and attach documents
- Submit to the Circle FSO
- Field verification will be done
- Card issued within 30-45 days
How to Collect Free Ration
- Visit your designated Fair Price Shop (FPS) on the scheduled date
- Carry your ration card and Aadhaar Card
- Biometric authentication (fingerprint) at the ePoS machine
