What is Kerala Karshaka Kshemanidhi?

Karshaka Kshemanidhi (Farmers' Welfare Fund) is a Kerala government welfare scheme that provides ₹1,600 per month pension to registered farmers aged 60 years and above. Farmers contribute a small monthly amount during their active years, and the Kerala government matches the contribution — similar to a provident fund for farmers.

The scheme also provides financial assistance for death, disability, and medical emergencies.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. I am 55 years old and not yet registered. Is it too late to join?

You can still register if you are below 60. You'll contribute at the ₹150/month rate for the 5 remaining years. The pension amount at 60 may be slightly lower (fewer contribution years) but you still receive a pension.

2. I am a tenant farmer with no land ownership. Can I register?

Yes. Tenant farmers who cultivate agricultural land are eligible. You need to show that you cultivate at least 0.05 hectares — a tenancy agreement or Tahsildar's certificate is sufficient.

3. What happens to my contributions if I die before turning 60?

The death benefit of ₹50,000 (natural) or ₹1,00,000 (accident) is paid to your nominee/family, along with the accumulated fund.

4. Is the ₹1,600/month pension enough? Can I increase it?

The ₹1,600/month is fixed by the scheme. For additional income, registered farmers can also explore Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maan Dhan Yojana (PM-KMY) at the central level for an additional ₹3,000/month pension.

5. My district has no Karshaka Kshemanidhi office. Where do I go?

Contact the District Agriculture Officer in your district. They manage the Karshaka Kshemanidhi registration. The Krishi Bhavan in your block is the first point of contact.
