PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) 2025 – Complete Guide

What is PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana?

Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) is a government-backed life insurance scheme launched on 9th May 2015. It provides a life cover of ₹2 lakh in case of death (due to any reason) at an annual premium of just ₹436 — making it one of the most affordable term life insurance plans in the world.

Unlike PM Suraksha Bima Yojana which covers only accidental death, PMJJBY covers death due to any cause — illness, accident, natural causes, or any other reason during the policy period.

Important Tips

  1. Combine with PMSBY — Enroll in both PMJJBY (₹436) and PMSBY (₹12) for total coverage of ₹4 lakh at just ₹448/year.
  2. Maintain bank balance — Keep at least ₹436 in your account before June 1st. Failed auto-debit means lapsed coverage with no grace period.
  3. Update nominee regularly — Ensure your nominee details are current. Disputes between family members can delay claim settlement.
  4. Self-declaration of good health — While no medical exam is needed, you must declare that you are in good health at the time of enrollment. Fraudulent declarations can lead to claim rejection.
  5. Enroll all eligible family members — At ₹436/person/year, ensure your spouse and adult children (18+) are also covered.
