Frequently Asked Questions

1. I am an SC student in a private engineering college in Chandigarh. Am I eligible?

Yes, if your family income is ₹2.5 lakh or below and you have a valid Punjab SC caste certificate. Private recognized colleges are covered — tuition fees (within state rate cap) are reimbursed. Apply at scholarship.punjab.gov.in.

2. My parents' combined income is ₹3 lakh/year. Am I eligible?

The income limit for the central post-matric scholarship is ₹2.5 lakh/year. At ₹3 lakh, you exceed this. However, Punjab may have a state-funded component for slightly higher incomes — check with the District Welfare Office for alternatives.

3. I missed last year's deadline and got no scholarship. What can I do now?

Apply for the current academic year during the application window (August–October). Missed years cannot be recovered retroactively. Ensure you apply in August each year going forward.

4. The scholarship amount in my account is less than what I expected. Why?

Maintenance allowance is only for months during the academic session. Also, scholarship for private college tuition fees may be capped at the government college rate, not the actual private tuition. Discuss with the District Welfare Office for a breakdown.

5. Can I get this scholarship for an online/distance degree?

Maintenance allowance is generally for full-time regular courses. Distance education students may get tuition fee support but not maintenance. Check the current year's guidelines.
