What is the UP Solar Pump Scheme?

Mukhyamantri Solar Pump Yojana is the Uttar Pradesh government scheme that gives 70–90% subsidy on solar-powered irrigation pumps to UP farmers. Solar pumps allow farmers to irrigate fields without electricity bills or diesel costs.

The scheme is implemented under the state component of PM KUSUM Yojana (Component B) and the UP state government's own solar agriculture programme.

Subsidy Structure

Farmer Category Subsidy
General / OBC farmer 70% of pump cost
SC / ST farmer 90% of pump cost
Small / marginal farmer Additional preference

The remaining 10–30% is paid by the farmer (can be financed through bank loan).

  • Works during power cuts
  • Low maintenance (solar panels last 25 years)
  • Excess solar energy can be fed to grid under KUSUM Component C (additional income)

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply for solar pump if I already have a diesel pump?

Yes — having a diesel pump doesn't disqualify you. The solar pump replaces/supplements it, eliminating fuel costs.

My land is in someone else's name but I farm it. Am I eligible?

Typically, the land must be in the applicant's name or they must have a valid tenancy/lease agreement. Check with your Agriculture Department about tenancy-based applications.

Can I apply for a higher capacity pump than needed?

The pump capacity should match your irrigated area. Overspecification may lead to rejection. A 3 HP pump typically covers 1–2 acres depending on crop type.

Where can I check my application status?

Log in to upagriculture.com with your registration ID and check the application dashboard.

The vendor installed a pump but it's not working properly. Who do I contact?

Empanelled vendors are responsible for post-installation support as per the warranty (typically 5 years for the pump, 25 years for solar panels). Contact the vendor first; if unresolved, approach the Agriculture Department helpline: 7839-000-575.
