What is the Uttarakhand Old Age Pension?

Vridhavastha Pension Yojana is Uttarakhand government's monthly pension for senior citizens aged 60 years and above who belong to BPL or poor families. The current pension amount is:

The scheme is implemented by the Department of Social Welfare, Uttarakhand and payments go directly to beneficiaries' Aadhaar-linked bank accounts via DBT.

How to Apply — Step by Step

Step 1 — Apply Online

Go to ssp.uk.gov.in (Uttarakhand Social Security Portal):

  1. Click on "Apply for Pension"
  2. Register with Aadhaar and mobile number
  3. Select Vridhavastha (Old Age) Pension
  4. Fill in details and upload documents
  5. Submit and note the Application ID

Step 2 — Apply at District Social Welfare Office

Visit the District Social Welfare Office (DSWO) with all documents. The officer fills the application on your behalf.

Step 3 — Block-Level Verification

Application is sent to the Block Development Officer (BDO) who:

  • Verifies your age, income, and BPL status
  • Confirms you are not receiving other pensions

Step 4 — Approval and Pension Start

After approval by the DPO/DSWO, monthly pension is credited to your bank account.

Uttarakhand integrates the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS) with the state pension:

  • Central IGNOAPS: ₹200–₹500/month (from Government of India)

Yes. Uttarakhand Vridhavastha Pension covers rural residents including those in mountain villages. He can apply through the Block Development Officer's office in Chamoli.

2. Is the income limit ₹1 lakh or is it strictly BPL card?

Primarily BPL card holders are eligible. However, in Uttarakhand, persons with no income (even without a formal BPL card) can apply and the DSWO assesses on a case-by-case basis. An income certificate from Tahsildar is needed.

3. My pension has not been received for 3 months. What should I do?

Check ssp.uk.gov.in for payment status. Visit the DSWO office with your bank passbook. Common issue: Aadhaar not seeded to bank. Get Aadhaar seeding done at your bank.

4. My father is in his 60s and very ill. Can we do proxy application?

You can apply on behalf of an elderly parent who cannot physically visit — submit a letter of authorization and their documents. The verification officer may visit the home.

5. I get ₹600/month from IGNOAPS. Will Uttarakhand add more to reach ₹1,200?

Yes — the state tops up to ensure the combined pension is ₹1,200/month. If you receive ₹600 from Central, the state contributes ₹600.
